Dear Friends,
National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is right around the corner—February 24 to March 1. This is a perfect time for all of us to renew our energy in the fight against eating disorders! In support of NEDAW, Gürze has sent out over 115,000 catalogues as well as books to 6 regional conferences, which is incredible.
This year we are very excited about three new books Gürze is publishing: Why She Feels Fat, The Exercise Balance, and I'm Still Caroline. Each of these titles is tailored to a different segment of the ED population, and all are motivating and inspirational. Titles are currently available for pre-order at discounted rates.
Happy NEDAW everyone! Let's make the momentum last all year long!

We are excited to welcome our new blogger, Lee Wolfe Blum, author of the You, Me and Ed blog, intended for family, friends, spouses and other loved ones of those with eating disorders. After nearly losing her life 13 years ago to an eating disorder and depression, Lee has made it her mission to share her story of hope and recovery so that others can also find life on the other side of an eating disorder or any other type of addiction.
Lee is a Health Educator at Park Nicollet Eating Disorders Institute in Minnesota. She runs a weekly support group at the hospital for friends and family of ED strugglers. She is also a speaker and shares her story of recovery to colleges, churches, and schools around the US. |

Are You Ready for the Next Step?
From Take the Fight Out of Food, by Donna Fish.
The minute our children move from breast milk and formula to solid foods, they become sensitive to the attitudes we parents have toward food. Without our even realizing it, we broadcast our own preferences, dislikes, and hang-ups loudly and clearly to our children, sending them, often unwittingly, messages that can contradict our intentions.
Separating your own food legacy from your children's eating behaviors is not always easy. It can be challenging to look at yourself "in the mirror" and face your own food habits and attitudes. Just know that even though you may not resolve your issues right away, you can still help your children learn to have a healthy relationship with food, unfettered by negative tape loops. Essentially, once you are able to be clear and objective in dealing with your kids' eating behavior, you will be able to replace your overinvolvement, underinvolvement, or unrealistic standards with a new attitude by doing three things:
*Give up some control
*Give children some freedom to make their own decisions
*Observe your children and separate your feelings and behavior from theirs
These three objectives require you to be flexible about your kids' relationship with food. You will also need to trust not only your own ability to teach and guide your children, but also your children's innate desire and ability to take care of their own bodies. |
