IAEDP Core Course

Description: This course is designed primarily for healthcare professionals. It offers an introduction to Nutrition Issues in Eating Disorders. The Course is designed to familiarize the student with nutrition education and counseling as well as the non-diet approach to weight management. Completion of this course is intended to meet one requirement for certification by IAEDP as an eating disorder specialist.

The primary textbooks for this class are:

Herrin M, Nutrition Counseling in the Treatment of Eating Disorders, 2002.

Kratina K, King N, Hayes D. Moving Away From Diets, 2nd Edition, 2003.

Key supplemental texts include:

Tribole E, Resch E. Intuitive Eating, 2003.

Koenig K. The Rules of "Normal" Eating, 2005.

REQUIREMENTS TO COMPLETE THE COURSE.

1. Please obtain the texts and articles listed above. You may obtain them from libraries or purchase from traditional or online bookstores such as Amazon.com.

2. Read the book Nutrition Counseling in the Treatment of Eating Disorders. Once you complete each chapter in this book, write a 300-500 word synopsis of each chapter.

3. Read Tribole/Resch and Koenig's books in their entirety. Then read Moving Away from Diets. After each chapter, write a 300-500 word synopsis with additional information from the other two books.

4. Each of the links below opens an MP3 audio lecture taken from IAEDP's extensive library of audio educational material. Please listen to each lecture. Each lecture lasts approximately one hour. Once you complete each lecture, write a 300-500 word synopsis of each.

5. Following completion of the above requirements, please click on the link below to print out the FINAL EXAM. Take the exam. This exam has no time limit, but please allow at least one-hour of uninterrupted time to complete it. This exam is open book.

6. Complete and submit the electronic forms with the text of your synopses, final exam answers, and the Core Course Completion Form.

Within 30 Days of IAEDP's receipt of your materials, you will receive a grade for this course. Grades will be sent to email addresses only. Please print and save the email you receive as proof of satisfactory course completion.
