Gaining
The Truth About Life After Eating Disorders

Aimee Liu
285 pg (hard), '07 (Code: GNG) $24.99

Decades after her initial recovery from anorexia and the publication of her first book, Solitaire, Liu had a relapse, which set her on a new course of self-discovery. Here, she combines personal interviews with cutting edge research to propose that societal pressure, popular culture, and family dysfunction cannot "make" one anorexic; rather it takes a particular genetic predisposition and temperament. Readers will learn who is susceptible and why recovery requires more than just good nutrition.

CYV

The chapters present practical, specific steps to identify and counteract the voice's profound influence so that readers can live a more fulfilling life, develop their own ideals, values, and priorities and embark on their own search for meaning. Recommended for improving addictive thinking, intimacy, career effectiveness, and overall quality of life.

Those of you who attended the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals Symposium in San Diego last week know that it was a delightful gathering of more than 400 clinicians from near and far. Since it was in our backyard, five people from our office attended and sold books at the Gürze booth. We enjoyed seeing old friends, placing names with faces, and meeting therapists new to the field. Several authors who are represented at bulimia.com spoke, and among them some favorite workshops and keynotes included the one by John Levitt and Randy Sansone (Personality Disorders and Eating Disorders), Phil Mehler’s question and answer session (ED: A Guide to Medical Care and Complications), and the session on “The Voice of the Soul” by Anita Johnston (Eating in the Light of the Moon) and Jenni Schaefer (Life Without Ed), who is also one of our most popular writers at eatingdisordersblogs.com. Finally, Leigh Cohn, our publisher, wanted to once again thank IAEDP for presenting him with an honorary Certified Eating Disorders Specialist designation. If you are a professional in the field, we encourage you to look into contacting IAEDP about applying for a CEDS, and mark your calendars for May 2008 in Orlando, FL for next year’s IAEDP symposium!
