No Cost Family Therapy for Adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa

Families with adolescents who are currently suffering from Anorexia Nervosa are needed to participate in an international study coordinated out of Stanford University.  Six treatment sites from all over the United States and Canada will be providing no cost family therapy for nine months and medication management of either Fluoxetine or placebo for over a year to families who need treatment.  Within the next two years, each site will be recruiting 40 families and therefore 240 families will have the opportunity to be randomized to receive one of the two state of the art family therapy treatments!  This study is currently the largest study in history to examine family therapy in adolescents with anorexia nervosa.  This is a great opportunity for those who cannot currently afford treatment! We are looking for adolescents between the ages of 12-18 who currently meet the DSM-IV-TR criteria for anorexia nervosa.  If you are interested in getting more information about participating in this study, please contact one of our six treatment sites or check out our study website at: http://anorexiastudy.stanford.edu/.  We look forward to talking with you!!

New York University doctoral disseration study on bulimia recovery

Criteria includes 1) women (ages 21-55) in recovery from bulimia for at least two years 2) have been in individual psychodynamic psychotherapy for at least two years and have been out of this treatment for the past six months (can be in another type of treatment). 3) Participants need to be free of bulimia symptoms for the past six months.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is defined in the study as having the following characteristics: 1) a focus on gaining psychological insight and perspective about the symptom, 2) a focus on how the past influences the present 3) a focus on examining feelings and thoughts about the therapy relationship. Participation involves 1) a one hour interview about the particpant's psychotherapy experience as it relates to their recovery 2) a ten minute questionnaire. The interview will take place at agreed upon location between the reseacher and participant. The participant will be payed $25 for their time. Photography Project

I am working on a photography project and currently seeking participant referrals. This project has been submitted for consideration to be shown at a national conference in October.

Goals and objectives include:

  1. A visual demonstration that recovery from eating disorders is possible. An accessible way for a general audience to conceptualize day-to-day life after an eating disorder.
  2. Presenting a balanced view of recovery from eating disorders. Different people experience different forms of similar illnesses. I hope to show a variety of people living in recovery; people of different sizes, shapes, colors, and experiences.
  3. To stimulate purposeful dialogue, whether internal or interpersonal.

Ideal participants include individuals living in recovery from an eating disorder, free from active symptoms. This projects aims to represent diversity in recovery, all are welcome. Participants must be willing to sign a photo release. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
