Could coffee be a help in weight loss

Could coffee be a help in weight loss?

As a universal beverage shared by many cultures around the world, coffee is both a pleasure and an aid to sustained effort for many. The virtues of this black beverage have long been under the microscope of scientific studies and continue to be so. But would coffee bean essential solution to lose weight and say goodbye to those extra pounds?

Coffee is a low-calorie drink

Coffee is a beverage made from ground coffee beans that are brewed in hot water. It is composed of caffeine, of course, but also of diterpene alcohols and phenolic substances (antioxidants) that appear when coffee beans are roasted. One cup of black coffee (in this case kawa) is therefore equivalent to 0 calories ingested. It won’t give you energy, but its strong aroma and taste are a source of pleasure.

Thanks to its caffeine molecule, coffee acts as a real stimulant that reduces fatigue. This is what often leads people to believe that this drink contains energy. However, coffee remains calorie-free (calorie-free) as long as no sugar, milk or cream is added. These small supplements turn the beverage into a high-calorie dessert. The same goes for sugar-free enhanced coffees: latte macchiato, coffee blend, chai latte, cappuccino, espresso, triple coffee, etc

Coffee and basic metabolism

Metabolism is the speed at which your body “processes” the food you give it. Specifically, it is the effort and speed with which your body digests food to convert it into usable energy. If you are on a weight loss diet, you may benefit from increasing your metabolic rate. In this case, drinking coffee is a great idea.

Calculate my basal metabolic rate.

It is scientifically proven that coffee increases metabolism due to its high caffeine content. A study has shown that regular and moderate consumption of black coffee significantly increases the metabolic rate, both in obese people and in subjects with a normal corpulence (1). Also, coffee facilitates digestion by increasing the secretion of digestive enzymes such as amylases, lipase and pepsin.

In doing so, coffee boosts your metabolism, increases your energy level and can help your body burn a little more fat. That’s why most “fat-burning” medicines are caffeine-based tablets with other ingredients such as guarana extract or hoodia.

According to the same study, the caffeine contained in coffee increases the phenomenon of thermogenesis, which is the fact that your body burns excess fat, even at rest.

So, does coffee make you lose weight?

Can we, therefore, conclude that coffee makes you lose weight? First of all, coffee does indeed keep the body at a good temperature for fat elimination. It can, therefore, be very useful in a diet aimed at losing weight. By consuming coffee during the day, caffeine will act on the neuroreceptors and disrupt the links between the hunger hormones (peptide, leptin, and ghrelin) and the receptors of the nervous system. The consequence is a reduction in your desire to eat. Drinking a cup of hot coffee, therefore, reduces your appetite and helps you to eat less.

So yes, coffee makes you lose weight! But this is still within the framework of a healthy and balanced diet. In other words, coffee alone doesn’t make you lose weight, it is rather a very effective slimming supplement to help you achieve your dream body. This is also the conclusion of a German scientific study on the power of coffee in maintaining physical fitness(2)

It is well known that the crucial point in a diet is the question of weight stabilization. This is often where the process fails. How can you keep your new figure after the diet? Coffee also provides a solution to this: a cup of your black nectar before a workout will allow you to exercise for longer and at a faster pace. What’s more, thanks to its appetite-suppressant effect, it can help you snack less during the day. With this, you’re not ready to regain the pounds you’ve lost!

Other Health Effects of Caffeine

While it is true that coffee makes you lose weight, it has also been shown that we do not all react in the same way to caffeine consumption because of our genetic make-up (3). Caffeine consumed in excess can cause insomnia in some people and prevent their brains from resting by blocking the action of adenosine, which is involved in triggering sleep. This can be detrimental if you want to lose weight, as a good night’s sleep is essential for good health and staying in shape. Fatigue and insomnia disrupt the internal clocks and therefore promote weight gain.

As coffee is a stimulant, it can increase the risk of cardiovascular accidents in smokers and people with high blood pressure. Caffeine may also temporarily inhibit taste receptors in some individuals. Researchers at Cornell University have looked at the effects of coffee consumption and have shown that drinking black coffee can trigger cravings for sweet foods, and thus lead to weight gain (4). That said, it appears that the harmful effects of coffee vary from one individual to another.

In conclusion, coffee makes you lose weight or rather can help some people lose weight. However, it is always important to maintain a balanced diet and not to consume it excessively.
